वर्धमान महावीर ओपन यूनिवर्सिटी distance learning के माध्यम से UG, PG, Diploma, Certificate courses करवाती है। कोटा ओपन यूनिवर्सिटी में एक साल में दो academic session होते है यानि दो बार admission लिए जाते है।

यूनिवर्सिटी द्वारा साल में दो बार आयोजित किए जाने वाली परीक्षाओं में लाखों स्टूडेंट्स हिस्सा लेते है। इन परीक्षाओं में कई स्टूडेंट्स के किसी सब्जेक्ट में बैक आ जाती है यानि उनके रिजल्ट / रिपोर्ट कार्ड में NC (not clear) आ जाता है तो वो स्टूडेंट defaulter exam के लिए आवेदन करते है।
इसके अलावा अगर कोई स्टूडेंट अपना exam नहीं दे पाता है या उसे किसी subject में improvement कराना है तो भी defaulter exam के द्वारा exam दे सकता है या करा सकता है।
